Why do people bash religion?

some people call it fairy tails, and a bunch of bull etc. But i think atheism isn't Perfect concept either and can be negated.Both militant atheism and militant religion troubles me.Because the truth is no belief is more right than the other and believe it of not atheism can be just as close minded and intolerant as some religious people.I'll neither call my self very religious or an atheist.I grew up Christann and ibelieveve the teaching of Jesus/God do have some moral merit to life.But i don't think people should put everything in their religion/God and not try to help themselves in life.I'm agnostic so I do put myself before God because he's not a genie.
