Why do some Irish Americans claim that their ancestors were treated worse than blacks?

while Irish Americans were looked down upon by other immigrants, and perhaps discriminated against, they were not treated the way Black Americans or the Native People were by any stretch of the imagination. That kind of stuff is the rather new (to me)phenomenon of certain white people who claim they are discriminated against and Blacks are the racist ones and white men are being left out and other ridiculous claims.
